J’ai abandonné après 250 pages…
Impossible de réussir à m’attacher aux personnages et de m’intéresser à l’intrigue.
Tant pis pour moi mais je n’arrive pas à continuer

A very cool concept - 'greek god battle royale', where human hunters (descendants of the original Greek heroes) are able to take a god's power by killing and usurping them.
I've seen people compare it to an adult version of Percy Jackson, which I think is fair, in that it is a darker, bleaker and more violent 'Greek gods in modern day' story. As a result, we end up meeting versions of our beloved gods that are bleak, exhausted, jaded, and angry (literally, everyone is angry in this book, all the time - Lore is angry, Philip is angry, Athena is angry, Artemis is angry, Wrath is... angry. A whole lot of angry people duking it out). I feel like the pervading backround scenery to this book would be dark and thunderous clouds and torrential rain... which does actually happen at a couple of points.
I thought it was a bit overwritten in places, especially in the exaggerated dramatic descriptions of each fresh bout of rage or near-breakdown that was coursing through Lore's body, etc. That felt a bit overdone and, I hesitate to say, noticeably a result of an inexperienced writer.
I've seen a few people say the characters felt a bit flat, and I'd agree. There wasn't much to really care about beyond Lore... and the main villain was a pretty 1D mysoginistic power-hungry asshole. With hints of paedophilia thrown in. Yikes.
I also had a few persistant worldbuilding gripes that were never really answered (like why more gods hadn't been killed in the 1500+ years of the Agon but were suddenly now dropping like flies? Or why gods didn't just kill all hunters between Agons whilst they were immortal?). But ultimately I think they were the result of setting this in the modern day, which dragged it down IMO. Perhaps setting the story in a fantasy version of Ancient Greece might have allowed the whole 'greek gods battle royale' concept to really flourish.
All in all, a very cool concept a little let down by the setting and slightly flat characters.

3.5 stars ⭐️
Overall the book was pretty good but I found myself struggling to stay engaged. The writing lacked some detail that made it a little hard to keep up with where they were and what was happening. The characters also felt a little bland. They were great and all but they didn’t quite have those personalities that make them stand out from each other.
But in the end I enjoyed it. I don’t think I would re-read Lore but it was a good book for a one-time read :))

Reading Lore was like coming home.
I picked Lore for four reasons. I made a promise to myself to read every Owlcrate and Barnes & Noble YA Book club selection. I also fell in love with the cover. The premise caught me when I read the summary. And finally, I've always had a love for the myths, and used to read them obsessively.
Lore surprised me. I went into the novel with only the summary in my mind. I didn't immediately recognize the author (to my benefit, as I really didn't care for The Darkest Minds series, and would have given this novel a skip just on principle).
Lore's pace was spot on. It moved quickly without making the reader feel as though they missed something. For only taking place over seven days (and some flashbacks), it almost felt as though weeks passed. But at the same time, I blinked and we were on the move again. The relationships built along the way also felt organic, not forced. And I'm not just talking about the budding romantic relationships, that are not the focus of this story. I also mean the friendship and commraderance, but also the antagonistic relationships as well.
All the characters felt really fleshed out, with backstories that are revealed organically, instead of just an info dump. This actually works to the story's advantage, as so much is built into those backstories, mostly revealed in flashbacks.
There are so many twists and turns that this novel takes, some of them out of nowhere. But again, this worked for me. It's been a while since I read a book that had a twist that I wasn't expecting, and that I still feel like it works.
Lore is absolutely one of the best books I have read this year thus far.

I wish I could say I loved this book but I’m left more confused than ever.
So like…what happened in that last page? Did the powers miraculously leave? How is this book not getting a sequel based off the zero answers I got?

4.5 stars! I was fortunate enough to have an ARC of Lore from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book kept me on my toes. There were so many times I said to myself, okay I'll read until the next section then do some cleaning or make dinner etc... And then the end of the section left me flabbergasted and needing to continue reading!
I had a blast buddy reading this with a friend and talking about all of our thoughts and assumptions as we read.
This was a fun ride and a book I didn't want to put down. Cannot wait to get my FairyLoot copy this month!

i don’t really know what to say about this other than it was so enjoyable to read. i felt like the plot left me with lots of questions as to why the agon was even a thing and how it actually worked and so on. some parts of the dialogue was very YA cringey but it was expected and i’m just not a fan of that however that didn’t take away any enjoyment. lore was a pretty good strong independent female character which we love to see but i’m still sad we never got a character description?! or not one i can remember anyway, so ill forever be wondering what she looked like
