I enjoyed listening to this audiobook quite a lot! It felt a lot like a Percy Jackson book for for older teens. The premise of ancient families hunting, killing, and becoming Greek gods every 7 years for 7 days was very interesting and exciting. I also liked how many twists and turns were within the book — the flashbacks grew more and more wild as the story went on and I genuinely didn’t see the last big plot twist coming! While I do feel like some parts were a little slow or long, the majority of the book was action packed and kept me wanting to listen to more!

I love a good mythology meets modern day book and I feel like this had a great mixture of the two. I will say it took a few chapters to get into it but by the end I was hooked.

2.5/5 ⭐️ and here’s why…

I SO badly wanted to love this book! The premise really intrigued me, I mean, Greek mythology (one of my favorite subjects) set in modern day NYC? Hello Percy! Unfortunately, this book just kind of fell flat for me. I wasn’t emotionally invested in the characters, and I was honestly a bit bored by the story. Throughout the book, I kept thinking about all the other books I wanted to be reading instead (that should have been my first warning) but I pushed through because I really was desperate to enjoy the book! Overall, it wasn’t a horrible experience by any means, and no hate to anyone that loves this book, it just didn’t pull me in the way that I hoped it would!

4.5

I’m not going to lie, I bought Lore because of the cover. It sat on my shelf for too long so I am BEGGING you not to sleep on this book.

It is the PERFECT amount of plot for a stand alone novel. It is so rare to see a fantasy that’s not a series, and I loved it.

Lore is a Greek mythology Hunger Games meets Percy Jackson set in modern New York. Every seven years, the Greek gods are mortal for seven days, and if you are lucky enough to vanquish a god, you receive their power and name. Fighting against the gods are the descendants of notorious heroes from mythology - Odysseus, Perseus, Achilles, etc.

This book has backstabbing (literal and figurative), deals, power struggles, and a lot of violence. But it also has the sweetest childhood friends-to-lovers romance and great discussions about why history favors the men in Greek mythology (Medusa, for example).

Lore was a great main character. She was confident, powerful, and resourceful. I really like that she was a strong character but wasn’t presented as emotionless. She was also given great character evolution!

This book was an absolute home run for me. It is quite violent so it will not be for everyone, and I would not recommend it for all YA readers across the board because of the gory action. But it will definitely have a target audience that will love it as much as I did!

Wow, okay.

So many really, really good things. Great characters, pretty prose, and beautiful world-building.

But I struggled like you would not believe to read this at times. So my review is gonna be confusing.

RTC.
