Behind the Yellow Wallpaper is a gorgeous collection of short stories by women, about women, that I have actually owned for a couple of years now. I can't believe I've only just gotten around to reading it! As a fan of The Yellow Wallpaper I know that was what inspired me to buy this book. And now, I'm glad that I've finally read it!

I thoroughly enjoyed the exploration of women and womanhood; some of these stories literally made me gasp out loud, and the majority of them made me really think about my life, life in general, and what it means to be a woman battling to 'break free', as the synopsis describes.

I liked the photographs included by Loreal Prystaj - there was one picture, I believe it was the image for Creeds by P.J. Schaefer that had me shook when I turned the page; I was not expecting that!

I liked most of these stories, but a few stood out for me, and have lingered in my brain now that I've finished the book:

Waiting for Jordan by Tracie Orsi really stood out, particularly as a nod to the original Yellow Wallpaper story. I thought the slow unravelling of this character was really stunningly done.

Last Caress by Leah Chaffins was shocking and intense. I felt so uncomfortable reading this and I suppose that was the point. Definitely one of my favourites.

An Obedient Girl by Amy Bridges - wow. This just went somewhere I wasn't expecting and I think is the story I've been thinking about the most.

I loved this collection and am looking forward to reading more by all the authors.
