Most of the giant plot points, I guessed just because...well, it's not like it takes a genius. But the prison itself is fascinating and the Warden is a character of much intrigue. I am interested in finding out more about him in the next book and knowing more about his relationship with his daughter. I was so invested in his story that whenever Finn and the others came around, I was always annoyed. So I suppose I liked the book - I want to read the next one - but mostly because of the Warden.

This...was awful. I kept waiting for it to get interesting-- I mean, the premise of a sentient prison that is so vast people simply live inside it without knowing they are incarcerated-- it's cool, right? Not executed at all. I couldn't care about any of the characters, and the premise fell apart quickly under the weight of pointless scenes that didn't seem to add up to anything.

CAPTIVATING

It took a while to get into it, and I kept thinking that it really shouldn't be a "read-alike" for The Hunger Games, but now I see why it is. I simply didn't understand who all the characters were at the beginning, or where they were, how there were different bands or groups of people, or if they were even really people. Felt much more like fantasy than science fiction, and much of it unbelievable because of it. But the audio version is quite amazing and extremely well-done. I wonder if the second one will actually be a prequel (from the title) rather than a sequel.

This was hard to get through. Definitely had enjoyable moments, and I think the premise was interesting but it’s a slog. I found myself wishing that it was at least 100 pages shorter, and had a very hard time finishing it.

listened to the audio book which was quite good. would recommend for a long car trip.

It's a fun read with cool twists and interesting characters - and, above all, an interesting setting. Nicely done - I'm looking forward to reading the second book in the series. =]

Really well done and original story - I look forward to the sequels.

Catherine Fisher creates a futuristic anti-utopia that is controlled by Protocol. Technology and modern medicine are forbidden and everyone “criminal” is imprisoned in Incarceron, a perfect organic world. Incarceron isn’t what is seems and becomes corrupt, playing with the lives of those imprisoned. Claudia, the daughter of the Warden of Incarceron, is in her own prison. She finds a link to Incarceron and awesomeness ensues.

This is a YA novel, which is always a turn off for me. I always assume (a bad habit of mine) that YA means overdramatic characters and sappy love stories. The characters of Incarceron are incredibly well developed and no sappy love anywhere! I completely enjoyed it and can’t wait to get the sequel in from the library.
