oh my goodness… where to start with this book

It’s written absolutely beautifully and weaves autobiography with narrative with fables almost seamlessly. This book spoke to my heart as someone who is searching for meaning and divine connection after years of repression. This book will break your heart and give you words to start rebuilding it. Please read it.

I usually like Jeanette Winterson's books. This was the first one I read, in high school, and I remember finding it a bit baffling and cold. I liked it but mostly because I found it a little perplexing, distant. Not the story, per se, but the way the story was told. This one is high on my list to reread.

it’s theology (sic) and it’s a healing read for those who experienced spiritual abuses ❤️‍🩹 i loved reading the fictional autobiography style, but it got confusing with the insertions of ancient legend stories

Read in one sitting for my feminism(s) module. Easy to read and a good story.

A classic, but take care: CW for homophobia, child abuse and a graphic exorcism scene.

So strange. So cool. Again, one that I would read again, if only because I don't feel like I got it enough the first time around. Unfair that I should have read so many books before I was prepared to really get them... and that I have no time to reread books when there are so many others that I want to read for the first time. Religion, lesbianism, postmodernism - where else do you get that combination?
