Really enjoyed the prose, but I think a lot of this went over my head, missing the church-y references.

Quite good autobiographical first novel. I wa suprised by how much I liked it.

I appreciate the historical context, but phew that was dense and slow.

“I miss God. I miss the company of someone utterly loyal” !!!!!

forever obsessed with this woman. such simple prose but it packs such a punch— feels like i’m reading a children’s storybook and a work of contemporary genius at the same time. and the way she needles in and out of different timelines……..genuinely astounding. literary god. mwah love her 5/5

The last chapter, which is about how lonely and directionless life is after leaving the church, had me in tears multiple times.

But if I were to fictionalize my life, I'd give it a more sound plot structure. The novel just ends without a conclusion. Admittedly, I'm still trying to figure out how such a conclusion could look like for my own story with the church, but I wouldn't write a novel about it until I had one.
