To say I enjoyed this would be an understatement.
The pacing was almost perfect, the plot lines and the character development was phenomenal and in true Sanderson fashion, the world building was deep and interesting and you just eat it up.
The plot twists and the turns in this book were amazing and i thoroughly enjoyed the entire book.

A slightly different flavor of Sanderson with two sisters at the helm. Less action, more romance (still no spice) and coming of age. The focus was more narrow and less complex than Sanderson's future works like The Stormlight Archive, but you still feel the sense of secrets waiting to be revealed that keep you hooked. If you enjoyed Elantris or Mistborn, this will be right up your alley. It's fun to see how Sanderson's writing evolved, but even earlier works like this are impressive and worth a read.

Pleasantly suprised with this one! Would be happy to see it continue with a sequel, but could also be left as is!

It was a bit difficult to get into it at first but after 200 pages I finally succeeded.
Overall, the story was entertaining and interesting, though I didn’t quite get how the magic works here. But ok, doesn’t really matter.
Another interesting thing is how every person perceives the characters. Vivenna was my absolute favorite, it was so absorbing to see her rising and then hitting rock bottom and rising again. Siri, on other hand, was interesting to watch only occasionally, when she was trying herself in politics. All other moments were a bit boring… But I’ve expected it would be the other way around based on my friend’s review.
Also, the romance … it’s not that I don’t like romance in epic fantasy. I love couples in Stormlight Archive, and even though I didn’t emotionally connected to Vin and Elend I respected them, and of course I absolutely adored Sazed and Tindwyl. The other example- Mia’s love life (from Nevernight) was quite amusing. In this case though… I felt chemistry between them, but they were so their own world that I felt resentment towards them. I wish they were more involved in court life and politics. I know the circumstances, I get the setting but I simply don’t appreciate it.
So far, I rate it 4 stars, but I wait the second book nonetheless
