If Piranesi is written like a labyrinth, this book is written like a dream. It's fantastical and immersive and I couldn't pull myself out of it. The writing is beautiful and it leaves you enchanted. I think the ending of the battle that was built up for the whole book

fell a little flat but I get that it was because it's fairly inconsequential because the best ending was to not play the game and pass the circus on to others.

Some details were glossed over when I really wanted to know more.

1.5? It just…never goes anywhere. How is this a competition? Why? What's the history of it? Were they ever really in any danger? Why exactly couldn't they just leave? And what exactly does the circus have to do with any of it? The list goes on and on.
