Here is the first volume of writer Greg Pak's most recent run of The Incredible Hulk (as of 2012).

Bruce Banner as the Hulk is a thing of the past. He no longer transforms into the Hulk upon getting angry, but as the potential for this transformation is not completely gone, the Hulk's son, Skaar, from the planet Sakaar, waits for the transformation by tagging along with Bruce Banner through all manner of adventures. Skaar has vowed to kill the Hulk if and when he emerges from Banner's form.

The duo tussle with Wolverine and his son Daken, Juggernaut, Mole Man, and Tyrannus, while trying to stay on the run from Norman Osborne and his Dark Avengers and the likes of the more traditional Avengers and the Fantastic Four.

This volume, like the first few in Jeph Loeb's run on Hulk, sees Banner and Skaar mash it up with many guest stars. Here, somehow, it's just better. Pak's stories have that x-factor. Whether it's the love/hate relationship between Banner and Skaar, the tribute to classic comic book tales, or just more substance... these stories have something that Loeb's just don't.

And while I didn't enjoy the art as much as in other recent Hulk readings (like that by Ed McGuiness, Arthur Adams, and Frank Cho), artist Ariel Olivetti has really done some beautiful work here, with many poster-worthy pieces.

Recommended for Hulk fans, superhero comics, and fans of the creators who did it.
