. Delivered through letters, Eva's tone alludes to indifference and

The nuances within Kevin and Eva's relationship are expertly crafted, rendering the relationship constantly at risk of obliteration. Teetering between obliteration and mutual respect

Bit of a hard read - took me a long time to get into it but made me extremely reflective on my own desire to have children.

This book… I enjoy being mentally ground up. I enjoy reading depraved things (tender is the flesh, woom, the troop, etc) but the ending of this book… I didn’t expect Eva to say what she said. When we find out what happened, I literally had to pause and rewind to make sure I heard it right. I knew it was coming; I knew with that final “are you sure you don’t want to say another goodbye” line bad things were on the horizon. I had no idea it was going to be that cruel.
Character-wise, I could not stand Franklin. He was constantly undermining Eva. Eva, herself, was a grating character especially with how she talked about people. Definitely hated characters.
Overall, I enjoyed the writing style. I enjoyed that ending because it’ll stick with me for awhile.

3.75/5 - interesting perspective of a school shooting. This books is definitely dated by some of the derogatory insults and thinking. I understand the conflict you’re supposed to feel, however the way it ended made it feel less believable.
I think the husband and daughter should have died in a car accident or something that wasn’t at the hand of Kevin. I feel like his “redemption” and her accepting him is less believable because of him killing them.

thought-provoking, disturbing, and ultimately, i fear, unforgettable. the detailed writing really adds to the realism of the story. eva, our narrator, is unlikeable but certainly enthralling.

Some of the letters are slower than others, but as the story builds, it really becomes an unstoppable force.
