Nice start
Good book. Hot dirty talk and erotic scenes. Not a lot of humor or emotion in the narrative or dialogue. No backstory for either lead, all you really know is that they're marines. What's the mythology? I may proceed with the series, but we need to discuss this price(lol).

Loved this one. Beautifully written characters, emotions and their connection.
First book by this author for me and I have to read more.

Honestly, I'm disappointed.
It started really well but it was getting too long without real purpose and the "realisation" came way too late, it was annoying. Lucas was frustrating in the end and that made the conclusion less satisfying in my opinion.

This was way too much and Lucas was an idiot. Honestly how does it take you a whole book to figure out that he is your mate and why did he have to tell you. Ridiculous.
I'm going to preface this by saying that I don't enjoy military stories. I didn't before I got into the M/M genre, and being in the M/M genre hasn't changed it. There are very few that I can make it through reading, and fewer still that I actually like afterwards.
I do, however, love a good shifter story like nothing else. Which apparently outweighs my dislike of military stories, because I loved this from start to finish.
For one thing, it was so very different than other shifter stories. How often do you see a shifter hierarchy where you would get to witness an Alpha submit to anyone? I also really enjoyed that shifters are just a fact of life in this universe. Different from humans, but treated with the same amount of respect, not forced to stay hidden like in so many other stories out there. And the common tropes that were used are some of my favorites, so it's not like I minded that at all! :)
I don't know enough about the military to comment on how that aspect was handled, but for the most part, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. A few areas where I had o seriously suspend my disbelief, but, well, it's a werewolf story. I can deal with that, to a point.
I do wish we'd gotten more background on how homosexuality is viewed in this world. It seems to be just another fact of life, but I'm still curious. I also wish we'd gotten any sort of background – or any mention at all really – of Lucas and Noah's families. What are were families like? We know that Noah was born a werewolf, but what about his parents, his siblings? All we really got to read about was the pack and pack bonds, but nothing about family, and that bugged me a bit.
But overall, I love this story a lot more than I thought I would, and I strongly recommend it for anyone looking for a werewolf story a bit outside of the ordinary. I'll be keeping an eye out for the sequels as well!

I loved Lucas and Noah. Noah, the True Alpha, was assigned to Lucas's platoon with little to no training for Lucas to help him understand how to command him. Noah challenges him, but Lucas, knowing that he has to take command, quickly puts a stop to that. Their bond forms, but Lucas struggles to understand what is happening to Noah and him. Complicating things in Lucas's mind is his rank and the fact that Noah is an NCO under his command. They have to work through this all in the heat of being deployed to Afghanistan.
I enjoyed the personalities of both these men and the other soldiers, both human and werewolves, serving with them. I loved how seamlessly the werewolves were folded into the working of the Marines.
I will definitely want to read the next books in this series.

Still 2.5 stars. It was fun, even though Lucas was beyond dense and poor Noah suffered so much.

I gave this a 3.5. I'm not really sure what took me so long to read this but I'm glad I finally gave in. It has been on my kindle for way to long. It probably would have gotten a better rating but I was lost due to all the military talk and miscommunication between Lucas and Noah. Even though I was lost with the military talk I still couldn't wait to read the next one.
By far my absolute favorite paranormal romance book. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series.
The lengths I had to go to to get ahold of this book was extreme but so worth it. McKenna, so few years of your work available is an absolute travesty. These books should absolutely be brought back into print, I hope they are soon.
