One of those books that is completely carried by its narrator. Although I think it was also one of those cases where the blurb spoils the book. The blurb mentions a "crime" that obviously never occurs, or is even hinted at, in the first 250 pages, meaning you're anticipating what it could be the entire time. Slightly ruins the reading experience.

I’ve noticed a theme with Moshfegh’s main characters: They tend to be unlikable, fat-phobic, classist, and have parental issues that would make Freud giddy. Nevertheless, I finished the book. On the whole it’s okay but has moments well enough written that it elevated it above just 3 stars for me. 3.5 stars

????? That was kinda pointless but interesting?

Det verste med denne er egentlig det faktum at den har potensiale, - det er så mye her som kunne vært bra. Eller, egentlig er vel det verste at den har sneket seg med på årets longlist. Skjønner ikke helt hvordan det har skjedd.

i loved this book - i was a bit underwhelmed by the ending, but imo this book is one big character study, and that plot mostly exists to serve our exploration of our titular protagonist eileen, rather than the other way around. ottessa moshfegh youve done it again. i love reading about crazy young women!!!!!!!

I really wanted to like this book and I can say it did surprise me at certain points but I barely made it to the end and almost gave up several times

Gross, disturbing, and yet somehow compelling? I watched the movie when I was only halfway through and it was the first time I’ve actually been glad about doing that, because it only made me want to keep going, just to see how she wrote the last half.
