I think Eileen starts her story too far in the past…
She feels a need to excuse herself for running away and leaving and thus begins her narration too early, when in reality, plenty happens between herself and her father after Rebecca shows up and the plot is set in motion.
It felt a little that she was bemoaning her situation rather than ‘setting the scene’

A profoundly disturbing psychological profile of a deeply troubled girl. Dark, but very well written. Eileen has a strong voice from page 1, and the narrative is unrelenting. 3.5 stars, rounded up.
It took until page 20 (wow) for the MC to scratch her coochie AND sniff her fingers after. Luckily it also took that same 20 pages for me to then decide this book wasn’t for me.
