I don't know about you, but I find it so damn satisfying to read women who DON'T behave. Maybe because I'm an aging GenXer, or maybe because I grew up in a Midwestern redneck town, or maybe I haven't been reading the right authors. Who knows? Who cares, really. But how many other books out there have women who don't ever get the guy? Who never become good? Who don't even care whether they are good or not? Sigh. So much fun. Suck it, dudes. Women get to be just as self-centered as you.

Sure, a lot of times the characters do disgusting things--and I'm *still* not over that detail with the bar of soap at the end. I laughed, groaned, and then bit back revulsion as that particular, uh, shall we say, desire, resonated a few good times as the final twists unfolded. Yikes. Yuck. And oh dear god, nooooo.

The plot dragged a bit in the middle. (Like, run away already, yes?) But the writing is overall great. Moshfegh is amazing at describing people in all their particular quirks. I'm definitely a fan.
