I really, really loved the first third of this. The science was exactly the kind and amount I love in monster sci-fi horror.
But then it dragged on and on and on. This was a real struggle to get through sometimes but at some point I grew accustomed to it and enjoyed it again.
Buy then it never ended. Everything about the ending just fell incredibly flat to me because every time you thought the book was over a new plot was introduced.

This is my earliest memory of movies, seeing Jurassic Park for the first time and since then I have always loved dinosaurs to the point of collecting their fossils like a Spinosuarus tooth and dinosaur eggshells.
The film is a favourite of mine, but this book is so much better, a lot more visceral and dark and really very different. I would have loved to see how an adaptation of this by James Cameron would have gone. I hate remakes but I would really be interested in seeing a more faithful to the book remake.
Ultimately comes down to the fact that man isn't God and nature cannot be created or controlled. The villain of the piece isn't the animals, who simply do what they are born to do, hunt and survive, it is the creators and controllers of Jurassic Park.
A very happy ending to see all those who were oblivious to their lack of respect for nature be the ones who died. Especially John Hammond. Such as easy to hate character.

Basically the perfect book. Read it in about 24 hours. Much more ominous and foreboding than the movie. Really enjoyed the corporate aspect of the maniacal theme park creator and unregulated island in Costa Rica.
