I still give it a 5, but I didn't love the ending, it seemed rather vague.

Audio. Definitely not my traditional choice of a book, but one of my 7th graders recommended it, and I needed to see it through! I’m glad I did. It’s good to shake up the norm. This novel does an amazing job of helping readers begin to understand the thought process and actions of someone with autism. Of course the story is fictional, but the drama causes so much emotion and had me holding my breath until the end.

In one way, this was an easy read; the limited voice of Ginny Moon tells a narrow story that's simple and easy to follow. But as you read, you join the ranks of the adults around her who seem clueless as to what's going on with Ginny, and what she's really trying to accomplish.

It reminds me of The Art of Racing in the Rain, in that the story is from the perspective of a limited narrator.

It was frustrating to watch Ginny take great risks she didn't realize, in order to accomplish some goal no one understood.

And the adults in her life seemed so dense sometimes!

As a note, a printed galley of this novel was sent to me by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not effect my opinions in any way.

Ginny Moon is a highly intriguing novel that hit a lot of high and low notes. I don't want my rating to fool you--I did appreciate this novel and thought it was very important to its genre. There were a few things I didn't like about it, which were what landed it between 3 and 4 stars, I may update it to 4 of 5 stars at the end of the day, like the ending.

For the most part Benjamin Ludwig crafts an unforgettable tale that combines innocence and a little heartbreak. I can't explain how I felt while reading it without spoiling and that's the opposite of what I want to do. It shines light on a character that is vastly underrepresented in modern and classic literature, and its prose is thoughtful--elegant and thought provoking. Ludwig managed to impress me deeply with the way the plotline is captured and you can feel everything as you are reading. I do mean everything.

Full of solid relationships (family and all its confusions) and sprinkled in are a lot of mixed genres; Ginny Moon is charming. I do think that even the most reluctant of readers will appreciate this novel and the characters in it. The tone is such a compelling one that you can't really put it down.

With Ginny Moon, Benjamin Ludwig has created a story that is both charming and heartbreaking. Ginny is a 14-year-old girl with autism. She has difficulty communicating and self-advocating, which often leads to confusion and frustration for Ginny and her adoptive parents. Not having any personal experience with autism, I found it interesting to get a peek into the way Ginny's brain works. Ludwig does a great job of showing Ginny's perspective while also revealing to readers how Ginny may be misinterpreting the events around her.

Because it takes Ginny a while to catch on to certain things, the narrative can feel redundant and drawn out at times. There were a few other small details about the story that bothered me, but I don't want to say anything spoilery. Overall this was an enjoyable read with a brave, quirky heroine you won't soon forget.

To quote Ginny: this was tedious.

I enjoyed the book but it seemed to go on forever and I don't know why no one had the idea to show Ginny her baby doll so she could end the fixation she had with needing to take excellent care of it.

I loved it. The character of Ginny is so well developed. I could not put this book down.
