I have had this book on my shelf for well over a year and I am so glad I finally finished it! This was one of the better follow up books I have read to a first in a series and I cannot wait to read the final book!!

Okay its actually a 4.6, this book was so good. Continuing to learn so much as Tristan deals with the aftermath of the last book. We got to meet some new figures including Keelboat Annie and Mama Wata! A strong boat captain and water goddess sign me up to learn more. Did I mention Annie is over 7ft and super strong!

What a fun story! I really enjoyed reading this with my son. I liked the first one a bit more (probably due to the world building), but this was a great follow up. Looking forward to more adventures with Tristan in the future!

I love how this series really emphasizes the importance and power of stories.

1. There is so much quotable genius-ness in this follow up book. Genius-ness!

2. Gum Baby!

3. Kwame Mbalia has woven so much diaspora that it felt as though I was meeting many of these well known characters for the 1st time.

If you're considering reading this book you should definitely go grab a copy and/or listen to the audio book version!

I cannot wait to get back to this world.

THREE OUT OF FIVE STARS!!! 4.71 CAWPILE

I don't know why I thought this series would get better. This series is too complex for a middle grade book and I say that as an adult reading this book.

There are WAY TOO MANY CHARACTER with super unique names and it is honestly hard to keep everything straight.

I do enjoy the plot of the series but it is a very confusing ride. I am interested to see how it end but this isn't a series I would recommend.
