Very dull and I just don’t care enough to find out how the rest of the book goes.

This was a difficult read, I expected far more from this book. It was a typical millennial existential crisis ending in a happily ever after love which, in some ways, was obvious from the beginning but it also had me hoping that it wouldn’t. It promised a seductive read but it was just a weird trigonometry, third wheel, not respected, strange play on middle aged sex parties.

The naïveté and frankly poor judgment on Violet’s part was unnerving. She constantly settled for what she thought she deserved. A line which especially stood out to me was when she said all she wanted to do was ‘curl up at the end of Simon and Lottie’s bed’ like some kind of stray cat. I wanted to give her a kick up the backside to make her realise what she was doing.

In theory, this book should have been brilliant, sexy, seductive, but really it tried to pack more into those pages than the author had time to explore, disappointing.

"it's him, with an extremely pretty blonde girl. they looked like an advertisement for ice cream, or fancy cider. she was made for men like him. i was the wobbly aberration of his love life, a mess of spilled dinner, bobbly tights and too many feelings."

"he leads me to see a fake, titillating version of myself, thrillingly young, willingly seducible, naive yet complicit. 'bad feminist' murmurs in my brain, but the rest of my body can only consider the wandering hand."

"it barley seems real— an out of body experience, but i've never been more in my body. for once, it's my mind that i am escaping."

Tbh this book was a wonderful palette cleanser between some of the more serious books i’ve been reading at the moment - so I finished this in a couple of sittings. Annoying, unlikable characters, bad sex but entertaining and trashy. Sometimes exactly what you need to read.
