I like stories where the heroine has a bit more backbone or at least grows one. In this story, it seemed like a back and forth process with the heroine (whose name I've already forgotten). She's been lied to all her life by her mother and brother, manipulated by them, including her father yet, her brother is the only one that she tells off? Her dad is the Russian mob and he just willingly walks away from his daughter after trying to extort her relationship with Gianluca? Then, when things heat up, she walks away from him (Gianluca) because and I quote "Gian and I aren't together anymore so you can't get what you want." Hmm.. Yet, he does because surprise, surprise, her brother is engaged to her best friend/sister-in-law.

There wasn't enough depth to the characters or the plot for me. It was a nice read to past the time. Basically, the story centered on the heroine's father controlling her life in New York from afar.

Maybe this was a great story for someone else, but it was just okay for me.

This is my first book by this author and I will definitely read more from her in the future. I really like the story of Gian. You can tell it was chemistry between him and the lead heroine from the first time they met and I knew it was going to be spicy. I actually loved the Mafia ties in the book and can not wait until the story of Gian's sister is out.

This is not an easy one to write

I enjoy a good mafia storyline which is why I went for this one. Unfortunately, this is not so much a mafia story with an undercurrent of romance. This is a romance story, with an undercurrent of mafia.
For me, the storyline seemed odd. The behaviour of Gian's family towards Evie really bugged me. Evie's friendship with Carmela was one of the most annoying parts. It just irritated me how things worked out.
I couldn't get on board with the 'chemistry' between Gian and Evie. There were also a few situations where I just couldn't understand why people behaved in the manner they did.
