Listen. This lil gem. It’s pretty ding dang adorable and quirky and lovey dovey. In reading Satisfaction Guaranteed, I am excited to read other books by Stetz-Waters. And I say “other books,” because this one… for all its good… is not The Best.
First, bless a queer romance set in a feminist sex shop. We love it. We need it. Cade and Selena are such cuties with adorable idiosyncrasies and heartwarming perspectives. I really like imagining the two of them in this kooky sex store being… themselves. A little sex kitten art freak and a tight lace, normcore jock boi. My heart.
This book also does one thing, I’ve not EVER read… the most perfect, effortless modeling of sexual and romantic consent. I mean—hats OFF.
It’s just… a real slow burn. Slow. Really slow. So slow, it didn’t seem to fit with my interpretation of the characters. Slow like, I really perfectly understood why Cade and Selena WEREN’T getting together and when they finally did… it was a little anticlimactic. Pun intended.
The first half (over half) of this book was such a tease… and when readers finally get that sexy gratification… it’s a little too simple and easy? I’m not sure exactly how to identify the problem beyond thinking about it as a super cute, very good date that ends in a quickie when we wanted it to end (not end) in a very very long night.
My honest review is a 3.5 but that’s not how Goodreads works.
