I wasn't really sure what to rate this book, I'm thinking a 4.5/ 5 stars. I'm not going to lie the book was really good, amazing, but there was some parts where I wanted to know more. Like the friends for example, what happened to that Charlie kid who asked out Maggie? Did he take his friend to see that concert? Does Nash have someone else? Does he move on from Maggie? What about Riley Young? Who is she? Why didn't they tell us anything about her?
Also Maggie's father, I know that Maggie hates him because he killed her mom, but I would have wanted to know more about how it all happened and why he did it. I know that he abused her and then made up, but what made it get to the point where he killed her? And him killing himself, that was a little out of the blue. And you never get to see what the letter said that her dad left for her. I would have wanted to see that.
I have never read an Abbi Glines book before, for the most part I loved it, but there was parts that I just wanted to know more.

This is one that has been on my TBR for forever. I really thought this was YA when I originally got it, now after reading it I can say I was wrong about that😂
As someone who lives in a small town high school football is as big as one would seem. While I think the story was a interesting it also had some stereotypical elements intertwined. There was one part of the book that felt randomly put in there which seemed very unnecessary and don’t really like it in there and is one thing that I remember vividly. There were parts that felt really abrupt. I think the thought was there the intention of it could have been better though. I’m in intrigued by the series but I have now built some expectations for it going forward.

*Many thanks to the publisher, Simon & Schuster for providing me with a review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*

It's going to be pretty hard describing what I liked about the book, because the problem is, I basically liked 99.9% of the book. Ever since I read the synopsis on the book's release date, I knew I had to have it. Let me just say that this book did not disappoint. In fact, I enjoyed this book so much I didn't even make notes while reading. So now I'm writing this review fresh of off my memory... Anyway. Let's get started.

Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down. It had such a raw feel to it that it just completely compelled me. There are so many factors that contributed to this, which I'll be delving into below:

Firstly, the characters. I don't usually get emotionally attached to characters except for a few special cases, so imagine my surprise when I actually grinned at what the characters said and cried with them, too! This is coming from a person who didn't cry while reading TFIOS, by the way. West's interactions with his mother & father really touched me, and most of the time left me with tears running down my face. And when Maggie opens up to West - it was just so heart wrenching! Even though they were side characters, the other characters were really well-developed and easy to relate to. I felt like I knew them well. I love how Abbi was able to make us be in the story; that just shows how skilled she is. I'll definitely be reading more from her in the future.

Secondly, the storyline was so sweet, moving, and full of emotion that it almost blew me away. The way that everything weaves together could be so cute at times, but tragic at other times. I think that's what made it such a wonderful story - the blend of cutesy high school romance with an undertone of tragedy. The balance was maintained very well, therefore contributing to the story's flow really nicely.

Thirdly, the writing. It really lent the story the perfect vibe. I know it wasn't this dramatical prose full of flowery words, but I still enjoyed it very much. It had a conversational feel to it, yet it was still articulate. Books with this writing style are some of my favorite ones, to be honest. Also, the descriptions were totally flawless. They connected the story really well and conveyed its surroundings in an exceptional manner.

Now that I've talked about what I liked most about the book, let's discuss that 0.1% part that irritated me. It was West Ashby's possessiveness. He was so possessive of Maggie from Day 1, even when he claimed to want nothing to do with her. I find possessiveness & clinginess to be such an off putting quality in protagonists. I know the circumstances in this book are different and Maggie later confronted West about it, but the problem still remained. Yeah, he was conscious of it now but it was still kind of there toward the end. Also, Maggie broke up with West for like, ONE DAY. Frankly, it was just unhealthy.

So, all in all, this is definitely what I'd call a page turner of a book. If you haven't read Abbi Glines before, then you should definitely start with this YA book. It has an easy-to-follow writing style, emotional storyline, and dimensional characters! I'd recommend this book to lovers of easily readable YA stories.

Abbi Glines is fanastic. I love all of her books, this one being high school I was not sure but being a go to author of mine I checked it out. The story line in this is very adult. The characters may be in high school but you will feel for these characters no matter your age. Strong emotional topics, makes you feel so much for these characters....you feel like you are there feeling what they are feeling. I look forward to see what we get with the next book Under the Lights. Abbi makes you feel like you have grown up in these small towns, these football families. If you have a teen who wants/likes to read.....get them this. Abbi Glines is a fantastic writer.

4.5 STARS!

Abbi Glines can never do any wrong for me. I was pleasantly surprised by this book since she's known for writing New Adult books but this transition to YA was perfect. The relationship between West and Maggie was really cute, I loved how she helped him heal and he helped her. However, I also loved how Maggie called out West on him being controlling as authors and publishers like to skip it in their books when it is something that sadly happens.

I wouldn't say this book was the best YA to ever be written, like I've said plenty of times Abbi Glines' writing is pretty basic but it works for her. If you like small town, family oriented books with a cute romance then you'll be obsessed with this like I was.
