2.5 stars. It wasn't a bad book, but I felt it... lacking in places. I wasn't really drawn in to it.

first 50 pages were slow, but then i was hooked. i love cazaril, and what his perspective offers. he’s so genuine, and it’s cool to see someone who has knowledge/maturity show his perspective on things. it felt really genuine and heart warming, but also had some cool world building and the pacing felt good. loved it!

Purchased this book through a Humble e-book bundle. What a great way to discover new authors. It was an additionally pleasant surprise for me to learn Lois McMaster Bujold is from Minneapolis.
I really enjoyed the Curse of Chalion. In some ways, it fits its genre and is a very fun enjoyable read. What stood out to me was the way in which concepts of honor were framed through the lens of truth, responsibility and accountability rather than the more traditional lens of justice, vindication and loyalty.
I realized upon finishing that this is the first book in a series. I plan to check out the next book, Paladin of Souls.

So good. Great characters, high drama, internal consistency. Lois McMaster Bujold is awesome.
