Too much fantasy - but still a good story - but too much fantasy for me.

I really enjoyed my first Lois McMaster Bujold novel and am excited to read more by this author.

This was pretty well done. The fantasy elements were interesting and engaging. However, I felt like all of the characters, except for Cazariel, were fairly stock. I liked the world building and I could imagine it in my head. The plot was different within the realm of fantasy (more of a gothic convention) so that kept me motivated to keep reading. I don't know if I will continue with the series but what was nice was that the book was pretty self contained so the expectation for a large multi volume epic wasn't there. An entertaining and enjoyable, albeit non earth shattering fantasy.

The Curse of Chalion is a fine example of character-driven, well plotted, well structured, solidly written sword and sorcery fantasy which subtly breaks the death-bounds of an overwritten genre. There's no really new material here; it's quiet confidence simply lifts it head and shoulders above the rest.

I enjoyed it. Very richly described world and characters.

Great story

all I can say is that this book was amazingly written. I wish there was more stories of Caz. I wish to see his story continued

Well written, some interesting story elements, though not particularly exciting, and the characters besides the POV were pretty flat.
