Whoa, this was really good! I was compelled the whole way through, felt much more invested than in several of Bujold's Vorkosigan books. This is a solid fantasy book, with a thoughtful protagonist, godly intervention and magic and swords and cavalry and politicking, etc. Just all around well done. My favorite Bujold book so far.
Really a 4.5. It didn't quite smack of a 5 star, so rounding down, but I would definitely recommend this.

If you love fantasy politics, mysteries about dark curses, and an intelligent antagonist, this book is for you. I love all the World of the Five gods books, but this one was a particular favorite of the trilogy.
