I loved this book so much, There were so many ignored details that never were passed on to the movies released. There was a made for tv movie that was about as close to the book as they could do but it could've still been better. Definitely read this one more than once.

This book has a surprisingly high amount of rape, intersexism and intersexphobia (with some bonus transphobia), and is marked throughout with casual misogyny. These traits are topped off by a completely unlikeable narrator and his equally unlikeable best friend. It’s rare for me to prefer a movie to the book, but this is a prime example.

I really like the concept of this book, my only gripe is with how frequently and casually rape is talked about and depicted. It made it hard for me to read along with casual misogyny thrown around as well.
