if i was bullied my whole life for something out of my control, assaulted, and murdered, i think i would also consider creating an evil pyramid scheme. just saying. one star docked because why does the friend pretend to be a predator. that was unnecessary in my opinion.
For the first time ever, I have to say that the movie was better. The plot is great, but the writing is very poor. Suzuki explains two, three, even four times basic concepts which he should have left for the reader to work out. The entire book was a lot of telling and very little showing. That, combined with unnecessary descriptors in every sentence made the book unfortunately difficult to get through. Watch the movie instead, either the Japanese Ringu or the American The Ring. Both took the great idea and made it into a great story.
This really didn’t do much for me. I liked the premise but the characters seemed very superficial and I was very disappointed by the ending.

I wanted to rate this book higher because the beginning was so intriguing to me. But then the main characters revealed themselves and I didn’t want to root for them. Not sure what that means. I think my final straw was the implication at the end that she wanted to be murdered in that way . Gross. Anyway confused on what to feel.

This is one of my favorite books due to the inclusion of an intersex character. The American movie was okay, the Japanese movie was good, but the book had me on the edge of my seat. Took me a while to understand one character but re-reading helped me understand his actions.

I went into this with the expectations set by an infamous horror movie, but in actuality it played out like more of a murder mystery. Despite a couple of creepy scenes, it didn’t really scratch the horror itch i had prepared myself to have. Regardless of this and judging the read purely as a book without all of the expectations it was quite a well written and enthralling story. There was an off putting amount of sexism and other issues but maybe it was misdirected because in the end none of it was true? To be honest I don’t know. I did largely really like this book, and it helped that the final epiphany and ending itself kinda blew my mind.
