Alright, there are some definite flaws with this book. Especially with how some subjects are handled. The characters are bad people. The way some moments were written didn’t sit well with me and definitely took away from my enjoyment of the novel.
This is, however, the first time in a long time that I have been so captivated by a horror story. I’ve read a lot of horror and at this point I feel that I’ve become desensitized to a lot of it, and not much really scares me anymore. Which leads to a lot of disappointment. Ring actually managed to scare me, and I think it’s in large part thanks to how Suzuki writes suspense. I was really invested in what was happening and was really happy to finally have picked up a book that I couldn’t put down.

Solid three stars. It wasn't as scary as I remembered. If anything it felt more or less like a mystery thriller with some supernatural elements. Definitely not bad, but not something to be considered other worldly or amazing. That said, it was an entertaining read so I'll continue rereading the series.
