This is the third book in the Shapes series. I like Circle a lot--she's spunky and brave. Readers have gotten to know the shapes through the last two books and it's fun to finally see them all interacting together. (It's the first book with all 3 of them.) I wish the ending wasn't so obscure--it could have even been resolved in the end papers. It makes it feel a little unfinished to me.
For: readers looking for a cute book featuring shapes and shape recognition; readers looking for a book with some mystery and adventure.
Possible red flags: characters in peril; darkness/being afraid of the dark.

I saw this book on the shelf and found myself inexplicably drawn to it. I don’t know why. I just had to go pick it up and read it cover to cover. Luckily it’s short. Now I can’t stop stealing glances at it.

Another banger from Barnett & Klassen. Whimsical drawings, open-ended ending, it just feels like how childrens books are supposed to feel, inhabiting that space between the real and the imaginary.

kept this one for myself, alongside my boyfriend’s [title: Triangle], and I found it suiting that this story was about the perils and wonder of imagining what lives inside a dark cave

Edie did not like the ‘cliffhanger’ ending, but I did!

The final instalment in the shape trilogy, circle rounds off (sorry!) the tale of the three friends. Although the story is one of play and hide-and-seek, deeper themes on breaking rules and stereotypes rests beneath the surface to be explored when the reader is ready.
I had been looking forward to the close of the trilogy so much, having found Triangle and Square to be such a humorous duo. Although Klassen delivers once again, the narrative just didn’t have the punch that the others had for me.
