I wish I could put into words why I think this series is so good.  It's more than just the solving of a mystery.  It's about relationships, the culture and history of Quebec and Canada, and the reflective mind of Armand Gamache.  This particular story will stay with me for a while.

A collector's dream... or nightmare. There were fewer croissants in this one, but still delicious and leaves you craving more.

Whoo is the title accurate.

Throughout the book, I had a sense of where it was going to go because I’ve read enough of this series and I’m aware of why it is so popular (handsome guy who everyone wishes was their dad blows into charming, rustic village to solve the case) to take the liberty of assumption as I pour through it.

But I was wrong. I kept waiting for myself not to be wrong, up to the last page and yet, it never happened. The book ends where it does. It’s a mystery but also a bona fide noir.

If you’ve read this series before, you’ll know what’s up: the villagers of Three Pines go about their daily lives until a murder happens in their midst. That happens here. Dirty secrets and misdeeds of the past also get exposed. That also happens here.

But this time, the prime suspect is one of their own. And Gamache’s suspicion of them never really goes away. Or does it? You’ll have to read to find out.

Anyway, I imagine folks who kept up with this series when it first dropped were horrified. I myself was delighted. It was so appropriately noir. My only hope is that Penny keeps the conclusion in the larger part of her verse here, rather than back out cheaply. I would have for this to turn into Just Another Series.

I'd love to get lost in the world of the Three Pines especially during this time of the year.

Just could not get into this
