Holy shit. This book is wild. I finished it in one day because I could not stop reading. Watching June spiral as she dug herself deeper and deeper into her lies was like watching a disaster in progress: I couldn’t look away, despite the growing discomfort in my stomach. I had a visceral reaction to this book. There were moments I was physically cringing at the sharply crafted satire that was June’s story. I took more notes while reading this than I have in a long time, and many of them were along the lines of “aggghh is she serious?”
As someone with a vested interest in the publishing industry and all its Twitter drama, I found the events of this book riveting and scarily possible. June’s narration is filled with racist comments and micro aggressions that are unnervingly similar to real events that have happened in one version or another.

There were times that I found the story a bit disjointed or the twists predictable, but the central themes and satire are so keenly crafted that I am left completely in awe of what I just read.
