~You don't have to take things away from others if you want to have them for yourself!~
This short story follows Jack’s time in the Moors, mostly from the POV of her mentor. It adds to the world building of the first two books, focusing on the cultural structures, mythology, and biology. It provides a look at the portal world before Jack arrived as well as stories about Jill’s early time as an apprentice. While technically well written, I didn’t connect with Dr. Bleak’s character and I’m unable to explain why.
