Oh, and for all the other Anne of Green Gables fans out there if you are the sort who are intrigued by a few low key variations in the story (like getting personal thought bubbles and a few little twists in how events transpired), there will be some fun surprises for you to note as you read (from right to left, of course).
I thought some of the dramatic facial expressions Anne and the other characters made were hilarious. Very exaggerated, but still depicting the appropriate emotion so it worked great.
Some events had to be left out because of the format. And, interestingly, some were there, but in a different order.
All around fun way to experience this classic. Definitely let it be a gateway to reading the full story experience if you haven't.

I rarely read a manga...but hands down this was spectacular!
The manga follows one of the most famous stories, Anne of Green Gables. Eleven-year-old Anne with an E was brought to Green Gables by a mistake. Matthew Cuthbert was immediately enchanted by this queer girl and managed to convince his sister, Marilla, to let Anne stay. Over the next four years, we got to see Anne go on so many adventures. From making a bosom friend to a competitive rivalry with Anne's most hated person, Gilbert Blythe.
Anne was definitely a queer girl. She had such a big heart and an even bigger imagination. She got herself into the worst of troubles and somehow managed to escape them all. Her friendship with Diana was everything. It's a friendship that would last forever and a friendship I hope to have with my own friends. While reading the original [b:Anne of Green Gables|8127|Anne of Green Gables (Anne of Green Gables, #1)|L.M. Montgomery|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1390789015l/8127._SY75_.jpg|3464264], I could see Anne growing up and maturing emotionally. But the cool thing about this manga was I got to see Anne grow physically, too. It was gradual and definitely not define, but it was there and it added to Anne's development as a character.
Poor, poor, Gilbert Blythe. I know Anne and Gilbert had their differences. But he genuinely seemed like a great guy. And they seemed like they would be great friends...and maybe more. (I'm really excited to read the next book!)
The manga simplified the book a lot, but it still followed the story line very well. I wouldn't read this book before the actual book. But it is a great companion novel for fans of the classic book. There were a lot going on in each pages and I'm not a big manga reader, so it was hard to get into the book at first. But when I did, I loved every moment of it. The illustrations were stunning and Anne was adorable!
I cried so much at the end of the original book and somehow I still cried again. It wasn't easy, what Anne had to deal with at the end of the book. But somehow, she still kept her chin up and her determination strong. And that's something I really admire!
This was a quick read but since the story was such a classic, it is one that I won't be forgetting anytime soon. I loved the illustrations, the characters, the writings...everything! And I do hope the author plans on writing more manga of this series!

Anne of Green Gables's maga adaptation is not only accurate, but also it adds a new, heartwarming dimension to the story.
The art style is stunning and the story is extremely easy to follow because of how the panels are organized. The art captures the emotions of the characters perfectly, making it beautiful yet heart wrenching.
This was my first classics to manga adaptation, and I'm looking forward to diving into more of these! They are irresistible.
In addition to this, as an English Language and Literature teacher, I'm planning on incorporating these adaptations into my classes. They have inspired me to write a paper on the benefits of teaching classics through manga.
All in all, the idea of making classics into manga is ingenious.

I love Anne of Green Gables, no matter the format—book, anime or movie. It was my first time reading it as a manga adaptation, and I didn't know I could fall even more in love with it. It was really nice to see the illustrated story, and I cannot stop recommend it enough.

The very best part was how accurate this was. It did skip some (tedious flowery but still interesting) spots that were in the book, but it stayed very very faithful to the other scenes included down to the very wording. I really loved seeing their interpretation of Gilbert and his angst with Anne. It was quality.
Almost everyone is drawn in a cute way. The only exception to this were some of the elderly that had a strange eye shape. They were trying for semi-realism but they got creepy. I loved seeing Anne and Diana in their cutesy anime girl art style! Gilbert's character design threw me off since I pictured him completely different but I got used to him fast.
I'd love if the same people did adaptations of books 2 and 3 too! It would be amazing to see Anne and Gilbert go to college.
**Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!!**
