Enjoyed this much more than I’d imagined I would. Especially liked as an audiobook

Was a good companion piece to read with The Paris Wife.
hopeful inspiring reflective fast-paced

My first Hemingway and clearly a book that he was passionate about writing. I saw myself in him and his experiences throughout, a young man living in a big city with lots of possibilities. Loved the F Scott Fitzgerald connection in the last chapter

I liked the idea of this book but not the execution. Read clunky, like a diary. Very quotable. Too quotable.

Take my opinions with a grain of salt. I’m not an English major. It’s still Hemingway so there’s that.
adventurous funny lighthearted reflective relaxing medium-paced

Ill probably like this more once I read more Hemingway

I read A Paris Wife and wanted to read this to see the other side of the story. It is intimate and descriptive like a lovely and newsy letter from a friend.

Resorting to name dropping in a novel isn’t great literature.

Hemingway's memoir of his early Paris years. I found it enjoyable, but not captivating. But it's a good read for aspiring writers. The numerous alternative drafts included at the end make it clear how devoted he was to the craft, and how time-consuming it is to write well.
