Demelza by Winston Graham

Again, well-developed characters; great creation of story world. But there's the sexism...the death of Keren and we're supposed to feel sorry for Mark who killed her in a fit of passion. And what's worse, Graham is skilled enough to make you like Mark, dislike Keren and root for Dwight, which I found myself doing! I think I need another season of the series to make me read the next one. Now I'm on to being obsessed with Outlander...

I have to say Winston Graham is really good at what he does. I like the way he writes female characters. Some people as so contrived when they design them, however his seem real. I feel like I could find these women with these emotions somewhere out there.

I was irritated at once point in the book. I felt like the fight between Ross and Francis was blamed too much on Demelza, and that could have simply been out of Ross's inability to see his part to play. I really could argue this point all day, but I won't.

Though I didn't cry at the tragedy at the end of this volume, I was very touch. I really am enjoying the developments in Ross's and Demelza's marriage.

Again any sexual content was tame and tastefully done (sorry this is just a huge reason I will drop a book. Not into it). The profanity wasn't terrible and to the time. I hate when modern authors insert F bombs and GD's everywhere. (I do understand this was written in the 1940's, however my point still stands). This is another huge thing that will cause me not to read or finish a book and I quite appreciated the lack of this.

I loved this book so much, even if it makes me want to cry (and it's a re-read so I knew what was going to happen and it was still sad!). I adore Verity's storyline, and am always glad to see Dr Enys even if he's not quite as suave as he is in the television series at least at this stage in the books. Audiobook is excellent.

I started reading the series bc I had a hangover from the end of the show but got far enough along to cure it. Will probably pick the series back up at some point.
