My 7-year-old rated this 5 stars and says he wishes he could give it 6 or 10 stars. I also enjoyed the complex plot and the interesting characters, though I would probably give it 3 or 4 stats. This is our first Spirit Animals book and we will definitely be reading more.

This is a spin-off series but I haven't read the original series so I was a bit lost at first but I got into it fast and it was a pretty noice book.
Can't wait to read #2, especially since Queen Schwab wrote it.

great start to the spin off series though I do think it would have been better marketed as book 8 of spirit animal rather than making the title really long

I was not a fan. I liked the way the animals became tattoos when they were resting but I found the story disjointed for the most part and hard to follow. My son (9yrs) really liked the animals but when I asked him questions he obviously had trouble following what was going on as well.

Sure, the end of the book is really just an act break in the series, but the ending was in effect a Deus ex Machina. After all that tension, it feels like a cheat, like lazy writing, instead of a cliffhanger hook for the next book. If the author had done something to set up the stranger in red--anything at all--maybe it wouldn't feel so cheap.

I'm loving the new arc so far! This new series features Conor, Abeke, Meilin, and Rollan again, so we get right into it where we left off!

The plot for this arc seems interesting - there is a new sickness (?) spreading called the Wyrm, and it is causing the Great Beasts to turn evil. It's up to our old, and some new, friends to figure out what's causing this sickness and who is behind it all.
