Girl is absolutely a narcissist living inside her own head playing victim any way she can while judging people for doing the same things she is.

this wasn’t necessarily what I expected but it was good for what it was. I don’t have anything special to say

Another recommendation through a conversation about gender and all its inner workings, particularly after mentioning a very public celebrity divorce. I don’t know what I expected from this, I suppose a more detailed, sordid account of aforementioned celebrity divorce of which it included little to none of. What I got instead was a woman’s retelling of her journey through girlhood and into maturity while navigating the prickly parts of relationships with men alongside the relationship with herself. Circumstance and certain privileges kept me separate from the author sometimes but not in a way that takes away from why this story needed to be told. It was frustrating and annoying at times, lighthearted and hopeful at others, and relatable all the way through.

I’ve had anxiety basically for life and found this book very relatable. You never know what people are doing at home and how they’re feeling. Everyone struggles.

A modern day Girl, Interrupted as Anna delves into her mental health and brief stay in a psychiatric care facility.

This has been one of my most anticipated reads of 2024 and it surpassed every expectation I had. Anna’s narration is so clear and touching. It was funny and raw leaving me with the feeling that I understood her as a person and could relate a lot of my personal mental health struggles to her own.

If you’re going into it expecting a tell all on her relationship with her ex-husband, this book is not that (he is only briefly referenced and never by name). It is so much more important, especially for those who have battled their own struggles with mental health and a patriarchal system.

Thank you Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for the early access.
