Felt too much like the sappiest Hallmark movie that was going to turn my brain into mush. Closed it after 40 pages. Sorry to my friend who gave it to me as a gift. Will donate it to a free library where someone else might really need a feel good, low thought romance, cuz sometimes, that’s what you need - but that’s not me today.
Super cute small Christmas obsessed town. Could be turned into a Hallmark movie. I loved the description of all of the Christmas games, and the Noel Nana's stole the book for me. I definitely cannot wait to see more of Noel in other books because you can tell by the end that there will be more!
I would like to thank Netgalley, Kensington and Janet Dailey for the E ARC of this book that is published on the 24th of September.
Jordyn moves to the beautiful town of Noel and on her arrival comes under the scrutiny of the towns Nana’s. She is exactly what they were hoping for and set out to put their plan into action.
Jordyn hopes that the town will be a place she can put down roots, start her own business and maybe fall in love. The Nanas hope that she will help them by participating in the towns annual Christmas Competition and taking the crown from Nate. Not that they don’t love Nate and his daughter Roxanna but they feel he needs to move on from the loss of his wife. The competition was something he did with his late wife and he competes every year to keep her memory alive – which is not a bad thing but it is not giving him the opportunity to open his heart to someone else.
As the competition starts and Jordyn spends time with Nate and Roxanna the chemistry starts, will they both be open to the possibility of love?
This was a great read with a wonderful setting and characters. I really liked the Nanas and how they wanted to help both Jordyn and Nate. Roxanna was a lovely wee girl who grew more confident and self-assured with Jordyn’s support and help. I liked the way that Nate looked out for Jordyn when required and both he and Roxanna helped her not only settle into her new home but during the competition as well.
This is a book that would be ideal to read snuggled up on a winters day with the fire crackling, a hot cuppa beside you and Christmas lights twinkling in the background.

This may be the least amount of spice I’ve read (and that says a lot for me), but the slow burn was
Janet Dailey shines the light on Noel, North Carolina to highlight how a small town at Christmas pulls together to help those in need and showcase the magic of the season. It’s the first in a cozy mystery series, Frosted Firs Ranch, and has readers considering if love could possibly grow on trees!
Nomad and barrel racer, Jordyn Banks, arrives in Noel looking for a place to breed her horses and hopes that it’s also somewhere she can call ‘home’. The Appalachian Mountain community eagerly accept her and force her to open her heart to new possibilities.
I loved the Competitions of Christmas, the sense of community, the tension that arose when Jordyn met Nate Reed (the winner of the past 9 years) and appreciated a unique holiday-themed read. After Dailey’s passing, the Dailey family and a close associate have managed (through notes left) to capture Dailey’s ability to create relatable small-town characters and heartwarming holiday magic stuffed with new beginnings, family and romance.
I was gifted this copy by Kensington Publishing and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

The story as a whole was cute and the main plot moved being a series of Christmas challenges was fun. But the discussions around grief were fucking awful. With a main character widowed and two supporting characters also widowed I had a lot of hope. But instead it was basically a treatise on how you have to get over grief and if you don’t then you’re dwelling or stuck.
