usually when i give a book one stars there’s a seething amount of hate for the book but i don’t hate this book it’s just REALLY bad like awfully written with an intriguing premise. the love story was so undercooked it was cake batter. i was gagged at times so i’ll be giving it a 1.75!

when i first read the book i liked it a lot because i thought it was just supposed to be a psychological horror/thriller, but upon discovering that this is supposed to be a dark romance, i like it significantly less. protagonist is far from the main character, everyone is awful, and there are so many missed opportunities for genuine character development. the romance is the most insufferable part of the book, but it was tolerable when i thought it was meant to be a horror element. so if you just pretend to not know you’re reading a colleen hoover book, this is a solid 3.5 for simplicity and tropes

Colleen Hoover used trigger warnings as a checklist and over-explained things too much to maintain the ‘suspense’ aspect of this suspense novel, but I found myself enjoying it and looking forward to reading further.
