What a fun tangent from Percy’s series! I vaguely remember picking this up as a kid and being disappointed that my favorite heroes hardly even cameo, but this time around I was able to appreciate the story for what it is. I look forward to seeing where these heroes journey takes them and all the battles and shenanigans that are in store. You can definitely feel his writing age with the audience of the time and we are getting more depth and twists than earlier as well as a slightly darker lens.

i'm rereading this series in an attempt to get through the entire riordanverse and girl idk i spent a month being halfway through this book and i sat down to try to finish it and i just couldn't force myself to care so i looked up the summary on wikipedia so like technically this is a dnf but i put so much time into it that i'm counting it as a reread anyways

Making the transition from Percy Jackson to this book was a little harder than I thought. But after a while I got completely invested in the story and fell in love with the characters, especially Leo and Piper <3. Hopefully I'll love the rest of this series. The review is more like 4.5.

full review (spoiler free):

this is one of those books that when you think about it it's really really good but while you're reading it it's only okay. I will say I loved the characters but in my opinion the beginning on the book was a really bad way to start a book, I think it would be better if annabeth had the first chapter, then Jason. Piper and Leo are so amazing and they are the best friendship I've read about in a while, BUT I don't think piper and Jason had chemistry. The ending was amazing but the 60%-80% part really dragged and I think it could've been cut down A LITTLE. also, Hera/Juno FUCK YOU. I understand she's sad she doesn't have kids or wtv but she constantly taunts all of the demigods especially annabeth and Thalia. And now I wanna talk about Thalia because I ADORE her in this book. She is given a lot more personality and just in general is such a well written character, not to mention how loyal she is to her brother and artemis. leo Valdez and Jesper Fahey are the same characters and I adore them both, I loved how Leo could joke around but also be serious. Another thing I enjoyed is how Rachel and annabeth are friends now and got over everything, I loved them a lot. Overall it's not the best but it is pretty okay.
