much much worse than the first one

At first I was worried we wouldn't find out what happened to the characters from the first book after they went through the arch, so I'm glad I was wrong! I absolutely loved the first book, but didn't love this one quite as much. It's not like there is anything wrong with it, Spin is just a tough act to follow. I already have the third book and can't wait to see what happens next. Would definitely recommend this series to anyone who enjoys sci-fi.

Perhaps I shouldn't start in the middle of a series...

I was disappointed in this book. The first in the series was big and inventive and part of what made it great was the mystery behind the story. Axis tried to hard to answer all our questions. I didn't really ever connect with the characters or the story (which means to me that I could put it down for a week or two and not be pulled back). While it was an interesting book, it just wasn't great.

I'd say pass on this one unless you loved Spin (the first in this series).

Unusual. In the first book in the series there’s an inexplicable disappearance of all the stars in the sky. This one picks up where the first left off when the arch portal rose from the ocean. Therefore, it involves space travel and a mysterious “ash fall” with the attempt to put this all together as it pertains to the Hypotheticals, which are the unknown extraterrestrials causing all these events to occur. And since this is the second of a three book series, the questions are still there at the end.

I found it tedious.
There was suggestion of mystery either to be revealed or enhanced, but neither happened.
