Whew, what a months-long adventure! It was about time I stopped procrastinating on this book, and I'm grateful that I didn't give up on The City of Brass that easily. Because IT WAS GOOD.

The political plays, the magic, the worldbuilding---just plain awesome! I had some trouble keeping up with the names and stuff, but the story just got me hooked enough that it didn't bother me. My only peeve (and the reason for one less star in my review) is that the first several chapters felt a little more like a filler than actually helping the plot move forward. Ali's time while navigating the royal court and Nahri and Dara's time in the desert just took too long for my liking when it could've lasted for one or two chapters before moving on.

And that ending? Fricking great. The last couple chapters got me stressed, and that epilogue got me hook, line and sinker.

The book did not disappoint so I'll be seeing the sequel after this!

4.5 Stars!
This was very well-done with interesting characters and an interesting world. It was a little slow at times but totally made up for it with such a wild ending! I'm so excited to see what happens next in this series. It's very refreshing to read a fantasy world that takes place in a setting that's not reminiscent of medieval Europe. The writing was excellent and I feel like I really understand and care about the characters.
There were a few things that were a bit frustrating for me to read about-particularly the hatred, sexism and bigotry are very strong in this world. The treatment and outcomes for people have little to do with their own ideas, skills and actions but rather what blood they happen to have. Not anything against the work itself, just something that is personally frustrating for me to read about. Overall, loved this book!
