Angela Marsons

"No matter how you tried to outrun your past there were memories that refused to go away. And with the memories came the rush of emotions, as though it was yesterday."

I know that it took me long enough to finally start this series, but now that I've met Kim Stone I'm not letting go. Play Dead is already book number four and my fifth DI Kim Stone adventure, and this sequel has once again proven to me that the series is a worthy new favorite. The books are consistently strong and I simply love my time with Kim and their team as they investigate new intriguing cases. Play Dead is another dark one and I loved the incorporation of the body farm into the plot. There is some focus on developments in the personal life of the main characters as well as the case itself, and as always I just LOVE the banter between the characters. The case itself has lots of twists and turns and plenty of suspects to keep you busy... The chapters written from the POV of the killer added a nice touch. As a whole Play Dead is another excellent sequel and I already can't wait to see what the next book will have in store.

One of my favourite series.

How Angela Marsons takes me to such dark places each and every time I don’t know. She scares me with her descriptions and plot twists but then I have to stand back at the end of it all and applaud her. Quite frankly this is one humdinger of a novel and then some. I’ve never been quit as creeped out this early on in a novel before and still wanted to keep reading. This is one maggot infested and rottenly good novel that keeps you reading even though like me you are probably scratching yourself and flicking imaginary flies of you as you read.

I really am quite fascinated with DI Kim Stone and her colleagues. Tracy Frost – well there’s two names that suit. But it’s DI Stone although she lacks a lot in the social stakes, you really would want her on your team. She’s careful to respect the victims and is ‘visibly’ shaken when the body is found.

Despite it being set on a body farm, the pace is flat out exciting. Think there’s no pace and tension in a farm of bodies. Well you are wrong and what a setting! Grissom should read this book – he’d love it and probably be on the next flight out. He’d get on great with the men and women of Black Country CSI

Very yucky descriptions really add to the overall emotions you feel on reading this. There are numerous twists and turns and what an ending! Angela Marsons I do salute you although you always make me want to scrub myself after reading your books.

DI Kim tTone is a great police character and the cast here is one of the best in a crime series in my opinion. Although she scares me, I respect her and can’t want to meet up with her again in the next novel.

CSI tastic

Clare

DI Kim Stone and her team are visiting a facility in their force’s area where research is carried out on cadavers - what the Americans call a “body farm”. Unfortunately one of the bodies they see there wasn’t donated for research - it’s a murder victim that’s been dumped there. Another fantastic book in this series by Angela Marsons - loved it.

It's official I love Angela Marsons, Play Dead is excellent story there is a suspense the deaths get more gruesome and Kim is just basically Kim, one day when I finally meet Angela I will give a great big hug and thank her some much for putting the black country in her books and for writing kim the way she does.

I love how each book of the series is different and no way repetitive and I have no idea how Angela keeps coming up with these stories but I never want her to stop and I can't wait to see where her writing takes kim and us.

If I could do different ratings, I'd rate the overall mystery/story a 3.5-4, it was pretty good. The actual killer was creepy as hell, so I'd rate that lower just because it was so creepy. I usually don't mind creepy stuff but I guess I have a bit of a line. It was good though. Kim is a different kind of detective, very crass, rude and unlikable. It's refreshing.

4.5

A slow story but very engaging. An unusual setting g on this one. I didn't guess the ending. Will continue with this excellent series.
