WOW - Angie Marsons has done it again! I was left completely hooked all the way through - especially in the last 15% - cant praise the DI Kim Stone series enough. And is it just me or does DI Stone appear to be thawing? Cant wait for the next one. Highly recommend

Pre-ordered! Can't wait...

I absolutely love this series! Angela Marsons has done it again, another 5 star read for me. I have read a lot of series in this genre and usually by the third or fourth book, I start getting a little bit tired of the characters or the crimes. This series just keeps getting better and better. I love Kim Stone and her team and I love that we get to know just a little bit more about them in each book. In this novel, the bodies are discovered at a "body farm" which I found fascinating. A place where scientists study how insects and weather affect decomposition of bodies might not be appealing to many people, but it is interesting. Once again, I thought I had figured out who the killer was and once again I was wrong, way wrong as it turned out. I love that Angela Marsons always manages to surprise me with the ending.
I read a few other reviews and was surprised to read how some people found Kim to be too brusque and almost rude. I don't see that as a flaw in her, she needs to be that way to protect herself. To me, Kim's flaw is that she cares too much. She must get justice for the murdered people that she is in charge of investigating. If she needs to piss off a few people to do that, so be it. I actually thought that Kim had shown some growth in this book and was a wee bit more open with her emotions.
I highly recommend this book and the others in the series. I envy the person who hasn't discovered Kim Stone yet and now gets to start at the beginning and enjoy every word like I have.

Gritty, good police woman, im enjoying strong police women at the moment. This is 1 of the best to me. The connections the story fitting, theres humour, sarcasm, emotions, really expressive book. I've downloaded rest of series as I'm reading 4 1st! Doh! but so worth it.
Bodies turning up near, too near, the body farm, now to find out who it could be, why these victims, digging deep into clues and another cold case.
Getting background on the lead character as well.

Fourth book in the Kim Stone series

Detective Kim Stone is a force to be reckoned with!
In this outing, Kim and her team are called out to Westerley Research Facility. An unassuming patch of land where scientists study the way human bodies decompose. Better know as a "Body Farm". But now, there is a new resident that does not belong.
While a story set at a body farm may be off putting to some readers, Kim shares that repulsion. The location is viewed no differently as other crime scenes and is described quickly to show Kim's aversion. Others find the idea of this kind of research compelling, so there is enough detail to gain an understanding of what this facility truly does to advance forensic science.
The story sees some familiar faces return and explores Kim's interpersonal relationships, or lack there of. She has lived her entire life closed off from all other people in her life, including her team. In a previous book, she skirts the idea of a relationship with a case consultant that never does come to fruition. Now she has to face her own hostilities towards other people in general and the consultant specifically.
While Kim has issues with the living, she will never give up on the dead. Reopening a cold case as a favor leads to nothing but frustration and dead ends. Exactly the kind of case Kim lives for. She is devoted to her search for justice. This is a woman that pushes her boundaries to the limit, with instances where she nearly goes too far. But everything she does is for the right reasons even if it is a bit unorthodoxed. Kim is powerful and headstrong character that will keep readers coming back again and again.

New to me author. Fourth book in the series of another flawed, hardbitten cop with her own background of trauma. Interesting setting with overlapping crimes and shifting suspects on a body farm.

Angela Marsons NEVER disappoints!

{ 6 Things You Must Look Out for in Play Dead }

Serial Killer Alert!
It's where the thrill comes from, right? When you know that people may still die, when the detective is fighting against time, when it's so difficult to make out of the evidences they get, when the culprit perfectly performs his ritual every. single. time. I'd say that Marsons can throw in any crime out there and make it completely riveting - she showed this in Lost Girls.

Serial Killer POV.
This is Marsons' style - she puts you inside the mind of the culprit. It's one of the things I LOVE about her novels. You get to know their reasons - where they're coming, why they're doing what they're doing. The POV here kept me intrigued. It kept me wondering - his full story, why he keeps on talking to his 'mommy', the hatred he carries.

Do you remember Tracy Frost?
Your friendly (not!) journalist who never fails to annoy Kim. I like how Frost's character was further established here. Yes, we get to know Frost more. And yes, there's development. And yes, I'm also excited to read more of Frost in the next books. Frost's role in Play Dead made things even exciting to read. She has POVs in the novel!!

More of Kim.
I like reading more about Kim. I like getting to know Kim. It makes me want to hug her and tell her that don't be afraid, everything's going to be fine. It's a shame that Kim isn't open for relationships. She doesn't tie herself close to people (although she unconsciously tie herself to the dead and eagerly strive for their justice) but it's shown well why though and I understand Kim.

Two Cases!!
I LOVE how Marsons connected two cases that are seemingly unrelated - the main case opened for Kim and the other is something she ended up obsessing (okay, maybe that's going overboard) about (because of Tracy!!). Anyway, I like looking at cold cases. I kind of like the challenge that lies there. And oh the twist that comes with this!! Marsons has caught me off guard again!

There's Romance!
Again. I don't know. I like it but it's not a big deal for me. It's not so much romance-y, swoon-y kind of thing but Dr. Daniel Bate could possibly be swoon worthy if you ask me. ANYWAY, I'm still #TeamMatt if you're asking (lol).

OVERALL, Play Dead is a thrilling crime fiction that kept me at the edge of my seat, kept me intrigued, and kept me excited to know what happens next. It even caught me off guard. Marsons never disappoints. Play Dead and the entire D.I. Kim Stone series is a highly recommended mystery-thriller read for those who enjoy crime fiction with detectives and police procedure.

Wow! This was hard to put down, fast moving & engaging.
Narration for audio was well done too.

Another excellent addition to the DI Kim Stone saga. Completely surprised by the ending, but then again I shouldn't be because Ms. Marsons knows how to spin a tale while keeping it totally believable. Onto the next book in the series! :)

libro dopo libri mi innamoro sempre di più di questa scrittrice!
