These stories are primarily ones that never saw the light of day after being published in magazines in Montgomery's lifetime. There's a reason for that. I love reading more my L.M. Montgomery, but these are not my favorites. Maybe because they're grouped together by theme? The stories get very repetitive. And some of the stories showed up as scenes in her books. Fans of Montgomery should read these, but don't pick this up expecting to fall in love with it.

I took me a while to finish it because I've decided to read a few short stories between each novel I read. However, I really enjoyed it! I just love L.M. Montgomery . . . All of the stories just made me feel happy. A very enjoyable read!

I believe this is one of the stronger books of LM Montgomery's short story collections.  The theme here is people persevering against various kinds of troubles, and how they prove themselves.  There are always a story or two in any short story collection that don't hit right for the reader, but for me personally, this has far more hits than misses.  I've returned to this several times when I need something quick and pleasant.

A compilation of L.M. Montgomery's magazine stories -- I reread through this to find the gem called "The Strike at Putney" which is the best thing in the book. Also interesting was 'How We Got to the Wedding" which includes a very familiar scene that Anne fans will remember from Rilla of Ingleside.

Fun! A lot of very similar tales, as always, but a couple of standouts. Although they were predictable, I found a lot of charm to "In Spite of Myself" (or whatever that story was called) and the final story about the strike. "How We Went to the Wedding," meanwhile, was a whole other adventure tale on its own. Ignoring if at all possible (cringe) the wildly ignorant stuff about "Indians," this was a good story and very different from anything else of hers I'd ever read. No wealthy benefactors or long-lost relatives, no love interests, just a couple of women making a long trek and the various adventures that befell them on the way.
