Out of all the books on the craft of writing, this is the most detailed. This book is filled with great examples, and each part of story structure is covered in such a detailed way, that you start to think about it when you watch movies or read. It's a great resource that I turn to almost every day. Highly recommended!!

This was one of the better books on narrative structure. It had helpful examples, and proposed a variety of different ways to look at building a compelling structure. It doesn't necessarily teach anything new to those who have studied structure before, but it's an otherwise great primer and resource.

This was a very useful book and very motivating. The content actually got me to see writing as something concrete and real that is plannable, and can fit into small chucks or actions. It is a doable task. I can't thank it more for that.

I should however point out that I listened to the audio book and that this would be a much better choice in print. Luckily though, 90% of this book's content is available on Weiland's blog or at advancefictionwriting.com.

This is an exceptional book to learn the basis of story structure.

I always enjoy information from K.M. Weiland, she gives practical writing advice and gives you plenty of information and questions to answer about your own stories without over seeming too formulaic. This book goes into more detail about specific plot points in your story, and pin pointing what your scene involves rather than her outlining book which is good advice for someone who doesn't have a story in place yet and wants to explore the ideas more.

Here's the thing. I know I'm supposed to adore this book. That it's revered as one of the best writing advice books ever. And it is. Sort of. Yes, this how-to book about structuring your novel is packed with great nuggets of advice, but the advice didn't need to be drawn out into book length. That's my problem with it. All of this advice would have sufficed as an article in a writer's magazine, no need to blather on and on. I skimmed it. Moving on.
