The content of this book is clear and actionable; 5-stars.

However, I listened to it in an audiobook format and I DO NOT RECOMMEND that.

For a book about live, audible storytelling from an organization with an award-winning podcast, the mastering was terrible. The volume levels were all over the map; the sound quality from hundreds of different recordings was grating, and quite a few of the speakers were not comprehensible due to the audio quality.

Did this book have interesting tidbits, and snippets of stories? Yes.
Did it also have way too much information about the Moth organization? Yes.

This helped me think about how to tell some of the stories I share in my training work in a more effective way. Also listening to the audiobook was a real treat as I loved hearing the actual voices of people telling their stories. I can’t give it five stars as it was definitely self-promotional to the point where by the end I felt like I was not a cool kid because I hadn’t done anything with the Moth.

cute little handbook about verbal storytelling by the directors of an open mic storytelling event, the moth. lots of good tidbits of advice about structure, openings, endings, and figuring out the format of your story. really chock full of good examples from existing moth stories! while the advice is tailored to the event itself, there are helpful tips for other occasions where stories may be shared -- toasts, eulogies, job interviews, etc. what stands out the most in this book, however, is how adamantly it emphasises that storytelling is not about finding the perfect handbook at all, but about connecting with people, about creating emotion, and telling the story in you.

Just lost interest for some reason. I bought it on impulse so I will probably come back to it eventually.
