I read this in one day. So many twists I almost got whiplash. Will definitely read more of Ward’s work.

WOW. What a story. It’s horror for sure, with a gothic style. But also deeply emotional when some things are revealed later in the book. Catriona Ward does an expert job of weaving reality and fantasy, leaving you guessing until the very end.
(I also love the false reveals- had me thinking this was a super obvious story and then saying “WHAT!?!?” out loud when the truth was revealed). Incredible job

The plot twists and turns kept me guessing and confused (in a good way). I love a good unreliable narrator. However,
the use of DID as a plot device for horror feels tired and overdone, and a bit insince
. D's storyline felt forced sometimes. Not my favorite book, but interesting enough to give it a solid halfway rating.
