I really liked this book! I have read almost all of Rina Kent’s books and have liked every single one. I’m here for the vibes, and the possessive/obsessive men which we definitely get that with Kade. Rina Kent has become my favorite author because she definitely knows how to write Dark Romance in a way that keeps me soooo engaged that it’s hard for me to stop reading! I’m super excited for the next two books!!

Maybe like 3.75-4 stars? Idk. It started off so crazy and I was like “ummm what the fweak!!!!!!!

i feel rina wrote herself into a box with this one by creating such a closed off, cold and detached character like kane, because i couldn't give a fuck about his character or his relationship with dahlia. instead, i found myself way more interested and intrigued by jude, preston and marcus than the main character of this book. while i liked dahlia, because of what i said before this book didn't click with me. kane gave me nothing, and i couldn't connect at all. i wish we at least would have gotten scenes of him opening up about his past and upbringing but the little we found out was told by his mother. not to mention that the whole plot of this book was the mystery of what happened to dahlia's sister and we didn't even get a single answer to that by the end of this book. also kane finally getting his revenge against his father in THAT scene was incredibly anticlimatic, and would have loved a lot more grovelling from his part for lying to dahlia the entire time about her sister. cannot wait for preston and marcus' book though, their scenes still live rent-free in my head.

People keep calling him a Jeremy Volkov, but am I the only one who just doesn’t see it…? The book was good though finally a character who isn’t some blonde, blue-eyed virgin. The hockey romance is serving and I’m eating it up. Not my favorite book from her, but still interesting. (Lowkey tired of all the chasing and fucking, but hey, if it makes you happy, go off ) All that aside, I thought I’d be more into the mxm romance from this series since everyone keeps hyping it up and I am dont get me wrong love me some sassy jealous characters but am I the only one who’s actually more excited for the second book? Jude’s book is a totally different story and I’m so, so into it. I can’t wait.

2.0

P - 2 (no tension at all, everything was revealed practically in the first two chapters, no stakes for the characters, felt contrived)
W - 2 (the dialogue was horrible, several times using “Gen Z” speak, long drawn out monologues explaining storylines and character motivations instead of experiencing them ourselves)
I - 1 (money buys everything?, find someone that matches your freak?)
C - 3 (we get backstories, but in the worst worst form of exposition like trauma dumping and the MC explaining what she’s doing. Zero  motivations for side characters)
E - 2 (not very emotionally invested, cringed a lot, minimal highlights)

10/5=2

The website’s trigger warnings are not accurate, there was nothing “dubious” about that, it was rape. Kane brutally rapes Dahlia as early as Chapter 6.

This MMC’s characterization was so fucking awful that I think it actually made me like Killian in comparison.

I also have no idea why everyone is praising RK for writing Dahlia as a strong FMC for once, because she’s nowhere near it. She folded every chance she got, and Kane was genuinely awful towards her. There were so many mentions of how strong and confident she is, but I didn’t see it in her actions. Dahlia was a doormat, just as most of RK’s female characters are. I’m pretty sure every single character is this book said something horrible to her at least once. With that said, the misogyny, permeating from all the male leads of this series, was palpable.

The only thing that even slightly interested me in this book was Marcus, and honestly Preston sucked just as bad as Kane, so I can’t be that excited for their book. What is appealing though, is that neither Preston nor Marcus seem to be characterized as weak enough to let the other walk all over them.

Reading this book was torture.

I miss Nikolai.
