Their relationship was so toxic BUT I just couldn’t look away. In classic Rina fashion the smuttiness was a problematic mix of non con/dub con & degradation
🖤 he loves marking her
🏒 WATERWORKS
🖤 degradation kink
🏒 toxic but satisfying jealousy moments
🖤 public sex (lite)
cold mmc
poor x rich class
secret society
humiliation/degradation

This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year, and I’m sad to say it left me a bit underwhelmed. Maybe my expectations were too high, but it just didn’t grab me the way I’d hoped. It wasn’t a bad book by any means—I just didn’t connect with it or the characters as much as I wanted to.
Kane should have been everything I love in a dark romance MMC—broody, mysterious, possessive, and a little unhinged. And while I did like him, he didn’t quite hit the way I wanted him to. Dahlia felt contradictory. At times, she was feisty and strong; at others, she seemed like a shell of herself. I didn’t dislike her, but again, I struggled to really connect with her character.
The plot itself felt repetitive and drawn out. By the halfway point, it felt like not much had actually happened. The second half definitely picked up, but then we were hit with multiple breakups, and it just felt a bit too much. It was also very insta-lust (not a fave of mine) that quickly turned into obsession then love, and that shift didn’t quite work for me. It didn't feel authentic. That said, there were some really good parts, and the setup for the other books in the series was done so well. I’m definitely intrigued by Marcus and Preston—they have me in a chokehold, and we only got crumbs! Marcus is giving Niko vibes, and I am here for it. I also really liked Jude and am genuinely excited for his story.
Overall, this one was OK, but I wasn't wowed. I don’t think I’d bother re-reading it. However, I have to shout out the narrators of the audiobook—they were amazing and definitely kept me interested. So if you’re thinking of giving this a try, I’d absolutely recommend going the audio route.

I just finished this and…I genuinely don’t know what happened. It felt way longer than it needed to be and I could not stay focused on the plot. But the vibes were solid and the spice was fun. I stayed for the mood and the tension and honestly, sometimes that’s enough.
The first half felt like a stretch to make these men hockey players (this made more sense to me at 75%). I also felt like Kane’s personality in public and with Dahlia did not match with the relationship. Like he was possessive but detached?
Almost as if Kane was at war with himself for even thinking about her?
I was convinced that I would give this story 3 starts, right up until the last thirty minutes. I enjoyed the plot lines, and the secret society vibes. I love a good secret society, done right. This was like that in the beginning, yet the society ended up falling off as a past tense thing the longer I went through the story.
I liked the MMC’s, and I wanted the possessive MMC to need the FMC. I felt like the FMC did not deliver her role well. I did not want her to force his hand into needing her.
The “safe word” scene felt very “fifty shades”. It felt like the FMC was manipulative of that scene to her own emotional needs.
At around 60% I felt like the characters began to shift, and I was HERE FOR IT.
The MMC became more of what I had hoped he would be through out the entire story.
At 75% I began to wonder what else could possibly happen.
You go through thre@ts, kind!pp1ng, d@t3r4p3, and bl4ckm@il. Yet, there was still more coming.
Overall a good read.
For my first Rina Kent

A voz do Kane Davenport é incrível!
