there are some books everyone should read at least once in their life time. Books that teach you about life before your time, books about a place you ve never been to or never will get to see. Such books help you grow as a person, I challenge everyone to read a classic book once a month, a book not from your time. you will discover so many things about yourself and human nature. Edmond Dantes in the count of Monte Cristo has his whole life ahead him, everything is going well for him till his best friend stabs him in the back and he gets thrown in jail for a crime he did not commit. In that jail he struggles with anger, revenge and faith in his god. Even after escaping and having more waelth than anyone else in the world he battles with his demons and how to fight them. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will guarantee that you most certainly will. P.S the movie isnt bad either, Jim Caviezel was super hot.

I hate giving 3 stars to books because it is such a cop out. I feel like a book this long needs to hold your attention throughout, and I had to glaze over the middle section of this book. I’m proud of myself for foraging on, though! Just wish the fat could have been trimmed, and this would have been an absolute thrill!

Mystery, Intrigue, and a surprising number of church fathers? This book was so much. It left me constantly surprised at the depth of revenge that Monte Cristo wanted to enact, and how pervasive and clever his strategies to obtain it were. So many interesting decisions made throughout this book. I think my favorite thru line was that of Max Morrell and Valentine. Grateful to have read this book, and I feel that if I'd spent more time with it instead of rushing through it I would give it all five stars. Alas, due to my own haste the ending did not leave the impact on me I think it could have. 4.5 stars.
